The mud, which is brought from Tuzla district of Istanbul and prepared according to the criteria determined by the Ministry of Health, is heated up to approximately 45 degrees Celsius.
Medicinal mud called “peloid”, which is purified from bacteria, is applied to patients suffering from neck, lumbar hernia and calcification and muscle pain after being heated.
The patients find healing with the mud treatment applied to the aching areas for 20 minutes and applied for 10 sessions.
Adana City Training and Research Hospital Medical Ecology and Hydroclimatology Specialist Dr. Ali Suat Kuzu told Anadolu Agency (AA) that they have been applying medical mud treatment in their hospital for two months.
Noting that the patients were referred to the medical mud treatment after the examinations in the polyclinic where they applied with complaints of pain, Kuzu stated that mud treatment was applied in musculoskeletal disorders.
“We treated 110 patients over 1000 sessions in two months”
Kuzu explained that the sessions of 25 patients with back and neck hernia and joint calcification are currently continuing in their hospitals, and continued as follows:
“We apply 10 sessions of mud treatment to our patients. At the end of 10 sessions, we give some exercises to the patients. Currently, we are treating 25 patients a day. We have given 110 patients over 1000 sessions of treatment in two months since we opened. Patients usually complain of pain and limitation of movement. Mud relieves pain. “It has anti-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory effects, or rather, it has a restorative effect. In this way, we increase the patient’s quality of life. We also delay or prevent the need for other painkillers and surgery.”
Stating that they wait for the patients with pain to the Medical Ecology and Hydroclimatology polyclinic to be evaluated for suitability for mud treatment, Kuzu said that this treatment was given free of charge after the necessary reports were issued.
Stating that the medical mud treatment is applied in very few places, Kuzu said, “This is the only one in our Adana region at the moment. It is applied in city hospitals only in Adana City Training and Research Hospital.” said.
“Even though I came for 4 sessions, the result is good”
Mehmet Sarıkalkan, 52, who was treated with mud for neck hernia, said that despite the four sessions, the result was very good.
Stating that he could not move his neck before, Sarıkalkan said, “At the moment, I can easily turn it right and left, back and forth. After the mud treatment, my neck felt a lot of relief. I recommend it to everyone.” he said.
“I can walk now”
One of the patients, 67-year-old Güler Bağış, said that she had been suffering from lumbar hernia for three years, but she got rid of these complaints thanks to medical mud.
Stating that there have been six sessions since he started the treatment, Bagis said, “I am very well, thank God. I advise.” said.
Explaining that he started mud treatment due to the pain in his back that has been going on for four years, Zafer Çekiç, 44, also noted that thanks to this application, he got rid of the cramps in his waist and now he can sit more comfortably.
