His manager, Deborah Miller, reported that the actor died of “natural causes” at his home in Los Angeles yesterday.
Beatty was known as one of Hollywood’s leading character actors, remembered for his films in the 1970s.
Born in 1952 in Lousville, Kentucky, Beatty started his acting career in local theaters and made his film debut in 1972 with the movie “Kurtuluş”.
The actor was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of television executive Arthur Jensen in the 1976 film “The Network.”
Beatty appeared in the first two “Superman” films starring Christopher Reeve, and also appeared in “The Front Page” (1974), “Nashville” (1975) and “All the President’s Men” (1976).
