The 15-meter boat, which was once used for navigation in the Bosphorus, now welcomes its guests as a cafe on the slope of the mountain in the Düzköy district of Trabzon. Those who go to the deck of the boat on the mountain slope do not neglect to pose the famous ‘Titanic’ and take a selfie.
Turan Zafer, who runs a restaurant in Düzköy district, took action some time ago to realize his dream of making a cafe from a boat. Turan Zafer, who was looking for a boat, decided to buy the boat, which was once used as a sightseeing boat in the Bosphorus and was sold to the Tirebolu district of Giresun a while ago. Zafer, who brought the 15-meter-long, 4.60-meter-wide boat from the sea to the town of Akçaabat, loaded the boat onto the truck with the help of a crane. The boat, which was brought to Yenimahalle at an altitude of 661 in the district, by passing through single-lane, ramped and winding roads, was placed on the previously built concrete structure. While the boat called ‘Saback wind’ was positioned at a point dominating the district, it started to be frequented by local and foreign tourists with the end of the pandemic bans. Zafer also increased the interest in the boat by building another structure in the form of a Lighthouse right next to the boat.
“It was my father’s dream, so I supported his dream”
Making statements about the boat on the mountainside, Emirhan Zafer, son of Turan Zafer, said that the facility was his father’s dream. Emirhan Zafer stated that they spent more than 200 thousand TL to implement the project and said, “This place was my father’s dream. He had such a plan, I supported his dream. We brought our boat during the pandemic process. We completed the deficiencies of the facility until the pandemic bans were over, and after the bans ended, 1 June.” “We have started to host our guests since then. It was a facility that is not in the region, and we brought this into the region’s tourism,” he said.
“I have never seen anything like this in the countries I have visited”
Burak Tiryaki, one of the local residents who came to see the boat on the slope of the mountain with his friends, said, “We came to breakfast with friends and now we are enjoying the view. We were away from such environments due to the pandemic, thank God we survived this process without getting sick, now we are enjoying it,” said Erdal, who came to his hometown from Saudi Arabia on vacation. Çağılcı said, “This is a paradise for those living in Arabia. Those who live there know the value of these places much better, but those who live here are not aware of it. We saw it while passing by. It was very interesting. We wanted to get to know this place and see it closely. I have never seen anything like this in the countries I have visited.”
His wife, Latife Çağılcı, said, “It was very interesting. I was also very curious about how it was brought here”, while the owners of the facility gave the details of how they got the boat out and gave information to Çağılcı.
