OUR SKIN IS CONNECTED WITH OUR FEELINGS
The average adult has almost two square meters of skin, which makes up about 15 percent of our body weight. The thickest skin is on the soles of our feet, and the thinnest skin is on our eyelids. The appearance of our skin is directly linked to how we feel about ourselves.
Our skin can be an indicator of many things such as heat, anxiety, cold, infection, illness. At least five types of receptors in the skin respond to pain or touch. However, sometimes the skin reacts more strongly to stress factors and these reactions take longer. Factors that cause stress can be emotional and come from within. They can also be environmental, such as pollutants and UV rays that can cause free radicals. These are unstable molecules that can damage cells and cause disease and aging.
Cortisol breaks down the skin
If we talk about the effects of stress and anxiety on our skin; When we are stressed, our skin goes through an inflammatory process. This is part of the domino effect, which triggers the cells in our body to respond to an increase in cortisol. Cortisol, produced in response to stress, disrupts our skin in countless ways. It interferes with the natural production of hyaluronic acid and collagen found in skin care products because both are valuable for their youthful, skin-plumping properties. It also thins the skin by causing chronic inflammation and accelerates premature aging.
LUBRICATES THE SKIN
Cortisol also causes the skin’s oil-producing sebaceous glands to overwork, making the skin oily. This causes acne and clogged pores. While cortisol ages your skin, it also causes you to suffer from acne.
ATTENTION TO THESE IF YOU HAVE PROBLEM SKIN
If you are experiencing skin problems due to stress, there are some situations that you should pay attention to. Exfoliating can make your stress-stricken skin worse. Stressed skin needs to find its balance again. You should avoid balm or foam-style cleansers. Instead, soft micellar water would be a good option.
It would be the right choice to avoid essential oils and acidic firming products until your skin’s balance is restored.
