Livik.net – Google’s Pixel 6 launch using Google’s own Tensor chipset. It seems that other smartphone OEMs want to follow in Google’s footsteps.
Report from Nikkei Asia indicates that Oppo is already planning its own custom system on a chip (SoC) which will be implemented in the flagship series in early 2023.
As per reports, Oppo is interested in leveraging TSMC’s 3nm fabrication process to manufacture its own high-end chips for use in flagship devices.
Until recently, Oppo relied on Qualcomm and MediaTek for its chipset supply, and now, it appears the company is aiming to bypass the two chipmakers and enter the OEM group that designs their own chips as Samsung, Apple and now Google do.
Huawei is also used to designing its own chipsets although complications arising from US sanctions have severely hampered its Kirin SoC ambitions.
Oppo is also part of the BBK Electronics conglomerate which shares the supply chain with Vivo, OnePlus and Realme which means if Oppo’s internal chipset is present, we might see it in the devices of the other brands mentioned above.
