Regarding the terrorist organization PKK/YPG attacks carried out from the north of Syria, Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar said, “Whatever needs to be done to protect and protect our rights and interests will be done in the same way when the time and place comes, as has been done under the leadership of our President. No one should doubt that.” said.
Batkan Akar attended the opening ceremony of the National Defense University (MSU) 2021-2022 Academic Year, and held an evaluation meeting on military and academic education and training activities with the administrative and military management staff of MSU.
Speaking at the meetings, Akar stated that there are serious developments and changes in the world and in the region, especially in defense and security issues. Stating that they followed these closely and took all kinds of measures, Akar stated that under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey has become a subject in the international environment.
Emphasizing that they closely follow all the developments in the north of Iraq and Syria, the Aegean, the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus, Akar said, “We follow it instantly with the reports we receive. Whatever needs to be done to protect and protect our rights and interests will be done in the same way when the time and place comes, as has been done under the leadership of our President. Let no one doubt that. There is never such a thing as ‘compromising, giving up the struggle’ in any way. It is our duty to protect the rights of our noble nation and every particle of its law. We have done so far and we will continue to do whatever needs to be done about it,” he said.
“These things exceed them”
Reminding the agreements made with the USA and Russia regarding northern Syria, Akar said:
“As Turkey, we take everything that falls on us in the agreements seriously and implement them carefully. We fulfill our responsibilities there. In the same way, we are doing what we have to do within the framework of international law, within good neighborly relations in the Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus. We are in favor of peace, dialogue, speech, meeting. On the other hand, we said that we will not allow any fait accompli, and we continue to say it. We are determined, determined and capable of this.”
Touching on the recent developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, Akar made the following statements:
“Some countries in Europe are trying to gain a role in the Eastern Mediterranean beyond their size and power. These things are beyond them. They need to know that they won’t get anywhere. NATO is a defense organization. While there are allies here, the alliances of those inside it will divide both the EU’s defense power and NATO. They see this. However, some countries do not pay attention to these because of their egos or the political ambitions of their leaders, they both harm NATO and the EU and endanger the security of the whole of Europe.”
“We will not allow terror corridor”
Stating that Turkey respects the borders and sovereign rights of all its neighbors, Akar said, “On the other hand, it is our duty to protect our country. If there are terrorists there, if you can’t take any action against them, we have to. Hopefully, we are determined to save our country and nation from this terror scourge that has been going on for 40 years. On the other hand, you will come to our south from thousands of kilometers and say that ‘some actions threaten your security’, we will remain indifferent to the formations near our borders. Such a thing is unthinkable. We did not and will not allow the creation of a terror corridor there in any way. We buried PKK/YPG terrorists who tried to do it in the pits they dug.”
“Wherever the terrorist is, that’s our target”
Stating that a new process has been started in the fight against terrorism as of July 24, 2015, and that terrorists have been neutralized at their source within the scope of the new concept, Akar said, “Wherever the terrorist is, that’s our target.”
Using the phrase “PKK equals YPG” and emphasizing that the only target of the Turkish Armed Forces is terrorists, Minister Akar said, “As part of the intense fight against terrorism that started on July 24, 2015, 18,609 terrorists have been neutralized so far. As of January 1, the number of terrorists neutralized has reached 2,201.
“An army that works for its homeland and nation”
Referring to some of the recent evaluations regarding the NAVTEXs announced by Turkey regarding the activities of seismic research vessels, Akar said:
“It is out of the question for us to compromise our maritime jurisdictions and our rights, interests and interests in other matters. Our Navy is in constant operation to protect our maritime jurisdiction. There is a level of planning and implementation that some may not even dream of. In the meantime, they make some conversations and evaluations without seeing, hearing, understanding, or knowing what the information is. These and similar incidents negatively affect their morale and motivation at a time when our personnel in the field need morale the most. Conscious people should think, see and know this. Our Navy sailed for 200 thousand hours in a year. Our ship remained at sea for 182 days without interruption. Our Land Forces personnel stay in the base area for 4 years. Our Air Force operates day and night. We are talking about an army that makes such an effort. We are talking about an army that works for its homeland and nation. We are talking about the security of our borders, our citizens. And yet, of course, we regret those who mix the straw with the straw.”
Student admission to MSU
Akar, who also made statements regarding some of the allegations made regarding the recruitment of students to the National Defense University, said, “Recruitment of students, appointments, promotions are activities carried out meticulously within the framework of the legislation. There is no such thing as ‘influenced’. It is very wrong to take some information and add it to it and throw something mixed up. Our Ministry is determined and determined to carry out the duties assigned to it with great sensitivity in this regard.”
After the first lecture was given by MSU Rector Erhan Afyoncu, Minister Akar and the commanders with him transferred to the Multinational Joint Warfare Center Command and followed the “Eurasian Peace 2021 Exercise” for a while.
