According to the news in Yonhap, in the statement made by the Ministry of Unification of South Korea, it was stated that it is important to have smooth and stable communication between North and South Korea.
Pointing out the importance of the rapid revitalization of inter-Korean lines of communication, the statement said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s sister Kim’s words about “constructive” negotiations between Koreas were “meaningful”.
An official from the South Korean Presidency said that they were cautiously examining Kim’s statement.
Kim had said he was willing to continue negotiations if South Korea renounced “hostile policies”.
Kim Yo-jong noted that they were willing to make an official announcement that the war was over, but that “mutual respect must first be established, prejudices, hostile policies and double standards must be abandoned” for this to be done.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in has called for an official statement at the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) that the Korean War is over in order to restore peace in the region.
