Speaking at the House of Representatives session, Omi Şigeru, Chairman of the government-affiliated COVID-19 Advisory Board, touched on the situation of the epidemic across the country.
Pointing out that the trend has been at the level of 10 thousand cases per day in the last week, Omi stated that the Delta variant of the virus shows the effect.
Omi said that the state of emergency should be extended across the country, arguing that the Japanese people are getting used to COVID-19 and the partial state of emergency.
The state of emergency in Tokyo and the surrounding states of Kanagawa, Saitama and Chiba, as well as the southern city of Osaka and the island of Okinawa, will continue until the end of the month.
The highest number of daily cases since the beginning of the epidemic in Japan was reached yesterday. The number of cases increased by 14 thousand 207 yesterday to 971 thousand 904, and the number of deaths due to the virus increased by 14 to 15 thousand 246. Across the country, 777 people are being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units.
